World Sustainable Toy Day 2024

Today is World Sustainable Toy Day. With a theme of nature connection, I thought I'd reflect on some of the wonderful toys and games that assisted in my own nature connection from a young age. I was a creative child, I often made use of nature's resources in imaginative play and recreation. I made dice for my own board games out of acorns that I spent hours scraping on concrete to shape, I once had a tree branch fall down as I had made a skipping rope into a swing on a low branch, I explored estuaries and caves, forests and rivers with torches, magnifying glasses, bug catchers, and scavenger hunt sheets. I played with the leaves, with water, sticks, and stones. I climbed, rolled, jumped, ran and swam, I was lucky to be able to do all those things.

My questions were followed up with learning through observation and curiosity, and this has shaped who I am today. Toys are glorious things, and nature is too, get out there and explore Happy World Sustainable Toy Day everyone!
