These incredible taonga/treasured species are so unique!

They are one of Aotearoa's three extant (living) native frog species. Our native frogs are unlike introduced frogs in many ways- they have no external eardrum, are silent, and have rounded eyes rather than slit eyes.

They are also very talented at camouflage!
