Observe
Ngaokeoke/Peripatus are ancient! They have been around since before the dinosaurs. Even though they may look like a caterpillar or a worm with legs, they are so unique that they are actually in their own grouping (phylum).
Their adaptations are pretty fascinating! In particular, as a predator, they can spray an incredibly sticky substance at their prey, which dissolves the prey into a nutrient soup.
To help us understand these clever creatures, we are going to take a closer look at their adaptations- the cool features they have that have helped them survive for such a long time!

Let’s dive deeper into different habitats and the adaptations that the creatures living there might need to have to survive and thrive!
We have picked four unique habitats for you to think about. If you were a creature living here what features or abilities could help you in these places?
Can you think of any habitats or adaptations we haven’t mentioned?

Sian’s Story:
"Ella and I were in Dunedin taking in the seaside views, when this incredible seal turned up and went fishing. It would throw the fish into the air and catch it to break it into smaller pieces!”
“I was stoked to get some fantastic photos!”
