Observe

As part of nature ourselves, it only makes sense that when we spend time connecting outdoors we can feel peaceful, calm and happy.

When we start to feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or anxious, taking time to reconnect with nature is really important for our wellbeing- this can be called ‘grounding’.

In this activity, we have a range of scavenger hunt-type activities that help to reconnect us to nature through four of our senses- sight, sound, smell and touch.

We recommend starting with a 5min nature observation activity using your senses to discover what you see, hear, smell and feel in nature. Afterwards, complete some of the activities below using specific senses to observe the little things in nature.

  • Nature Shapes Hunt HERE.

Discover

In Sophie’s story she shared how reflecting on your own growth and celebrating success is an important part of wellbeing. So, now that you have taken time to connect to nature, it’s time to connect to your own growth.

Using our ‘Celebrating Growth’ Activity Sheet linked below, reflect on your learnings from the past year (seeds planted), skills you have been developing (growth), and the impact you are having (ripples made).

We recommend heading out into nature again to take some time to reflect and celebrate.

Story:

“I’ve always loved the outdoors because my grandparents have a massive forest in their backyard that I would always explore. The forest at Waikuku camping ground was another special place for me.”
