I Would Like to Save the World

"I would like to save the world." That was the bold statement on my PowerPoint as I stood in front of my primary school, explaining why I wanted to join the enviro group. Even as a kid, I was deeply connected to nature, animals, and education. I thought I’d be a zookeeper- but as I grew, I realised my heart was in working with kids and the natural world.

A dream came true when I got my first job with the Department of Conservation (@docgovtnz) straight out of high school. On my first day, I held a kiwi chick about to be released at @wairakeigolfsanctuary and saw wild kārearea (NZ falcons) nesting right there on the ground. Over two months, I was part of incredible conservation experiences, working with an amazing team in Taupō.

Now, I get to be the person who creates these kinds of opportunities for young people. I work with students who, just like little Sian, have big passions. I help them explore their connections, skills, identities, and goals- whatever path they choose to take.

Since it’s the start of term, I’m sharing some free nature-inspired resources to help learners connect with their identity, skills, goals and passions:

Nature Vision Planning & Passion Mapping: https://www.theseedpod.co.nz/lea.../neurodiversity-in-nature

Identity & Connections: https://www.theseedpod.co.nz/learning.../worldview-identity

To all the incredible educators out there- thank you for your hard mahi You’re shaping the next generation of nature lovers, and I’m so grateful to be part of that journey.

If you have used our resources and have stories, photos or feedback to share to help us receive funding please send them to theseedpod@outlook.com
