The Significance of our Garden Plants

My dad and I with the ceremony plants.

Our ceremony plant in our garden.

In Ep2. of our nature connection podcast, my husband Angus and I talked about our wedding last year, and how we included nature connection in our ceremony and celebrations. We are both nature lovers, adventurers, and gardeners. Our wedding reflected these passions. In the lead-up to our wedding day, I spread wildflower seeds in our garden, which I later collected petals from to dry as our 'confetti'. I also collected petals from significant places such as the gardens of my grandparents and parents.

For our ceremony, rather than spending thousands of dollars on cut flowers, which would die soon after our celebrations, we decided to have native plants. Following our big day, we held a planting day at our home, and these were planted into our garden by our friends and whānau. The last photo in this series shows how big these plants are now ❤️ Alongside these plants, we have now propagated and planted other significant trees, added bulbs, and spread wildflowers. These plants are the beginnings of our own native 'forest' patch.

Every day, we look out into our garden surrounded by the love of our friends and whānau, are reminded of special moments together, and can admire what we have created and grown together. These special touches have helped these celebrations continue far beyond one 'big day'.

Let's normalise big events having a lighter impact on the environment and highlight the deep significance that these personal touches can have.
